SUBSECTION
The Department of Animal Science consist of three major sciences. These are briefly introduced with their name of chairmans' below.
The department of animal husbandry consists of three subdivisions as raising of large animals , raising of small animals and poultry science. Researches, educational and scientific publications are carried out in order to find solutions to the problems of both national and regional animal husbandry in all disciplines. In the field of large animal breeding, researches and studies on different fields of dairy cattle have come to the fore, while breeding sheep-goat production has become important in recent years. Because there is a significant increases in the number of small animal breeder enterprises in last years. Also producing and breeding of lamb for meat efforts are going on. In goat breeding, protocols are signed with private breeders to develop breeding enterprise model goat milk production concept. Chicken meat and egg quality characteristics as well as physiological studies come to the fore in poultry science as well. The department of animal husbandry consists of 10 staffs, 8 of whom are professors and 2 of them are associate professors.
Department of feeds and animal nutrition consists of two branches as feed technology and animal nutrition (ruminants, single stomachs). In the division of feed technology studies are carried out on feed microbiology as well as physical and chemical properties of feeds. In addition to digestion experiments carried out in animal husbandry facilities, the digestion degrees of roughage and intensive feeds can be determined as well under laboratory conditions. On the other hand, in the field of animal nutrition basic principles and characteristics of ruminants nutrition (cattle, sheep, goat, buffalo, etc.) and animals with single stomachs (poultry, etc.) are studying. The Chemical Analysis Laboratory, which is located in the Department of Feeds and Animal Nutrition, also serves outside the university and is one of the reference laboratories in the region. Also research, education and scientific publication studies are carried out in order to find solutions to the problems related to feeding of livestock in these division. Feed and animal nutrition division consists of 7 professors, 6 of whom are professors and 1 of them are associate professors.
Biometry is a science that analyzes data obtained from agriculture for different purposes using statistical methods, interprets the results and tries to bring new statistical approaches to agriculture in particular. The academic staffs of this division contribute to the education by giving "Basic Statistic”, “Research and Experimental Methods” courses to different department students. In addition, they provides consultancy services for the evaluation of research data, especially for master's and doctoral studies. In the field of genetic science, courses are given to different departments at undergraduate and graduate levels on the basic principles of genetics and biotechnological applications. Various genetic analysis can be performed in the newly established genetic laboratory. Research, education and scientific publications are carried out with a total of 5 faculty members, 4 of whom are professors and one is an associate professor.
